LEAF and the Oneonta Narcan Initiative

LEAF is proud to partner with the Oneonta Narcan Initiative team to release ONEbox™ kits into our community! As of January 2024, sixty of these kits were distributed to businesses and organizations in Otsego County.

Our executive director, Julie Dostal, presented the kits at a press conference on January 19 at the Foothills Performing Arts & Civic Center in Oneonta.

What Is the Oneonta Narcan Initiative?

The Oneonta Narcan Initiative is a volunteer-run group that provides training, resources, and education on the opioid crisis. LEAF is proud to work closely with this team. Together, we aim to make it easier and more accessible for our community members to help someone in an opioid-related emergency.

What Is a ONEbox™ Kit?

ONEbox™ kits contain four doses of naloxone,  a life-saving drug that can reverse an opioid overdose. Naloxone can be effective against many types of opioid overdoses, including heroin, fentanyl, and prescription painkillers in the opioid family.

The kits also contain simple instructions and a short video, making the nasal spray easy to give to someone in an emergency. “A life can be saved in sixty seconds,” Julie Dostal told the Daily Star.
