What is Naloxone?
You may have heard about naloxone (aka Narcan) in the media. This isn't yet another drug to be misused and contribute to drug problems in society. In fact, it's safe, nonaddictive, and a fantastic tool to save a life in an opioid overdose crisis. Anyone can use naloxone to reverse the effects of an opioid drug overdose.
Opioids are a class of drugs that can be plant based (like opium) or synthetic (such as heroin, OxyContin, morphine, fentanyl, and many others). These substances are highly addictive, and in recent years, overdoses have become prevalent.
LEAF is proud to partner with the Oneonta Narcan Initiative team to release ONEbox™ kits into our community! As of January 2024, sixty of these kits were distributed to businesses and organizations in Otsego County.
