A Paraphrase of a Typical 12-Step Group’s Preamble
These groups are fellowships of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other that they may resolve their common problem and help others to recover.

The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop the harmful behavior. There are no dues or fees for membership; they are self-supporting through their own contributions.

These groups are not allied with any sect, denomination, political party, organization or institution; do not wish to engage in any controversy; nor do they endorse or oppose any cause.

Their primary purpose is to help members combat their affliction and help others do the same.
